IVAN OTIS

If music is the language of expressing human emotions, then a photographer would be the instrument that crystalizes that moment in time. Toronto based Photographer; Ivan Otis understands this concept, as he applies his artistic bilingualism to his unique point of view.
With 25 years in the industry, Ivan has photographed in commercial advertising, music, television, and his own art.  Drawing inspiration from his passion for music his aesthetic could be best described as neo-90’s post cyberpunk.
In Ivans Toyota Camry campaign, Contra Magazine editorial and Nada campaign he pays homage to that edgy futurism that leaves the viewer’s imagination inspired. In his own art, Ivan taps into his version of a twisted Brothers Grimm fairy tale illustrated in his Queen of the Fish Heads photographs and his work with musician Mathew Good; an esoteric expression of Anamorphic beauty and urban isolation. In Ivans Mobsters collection, he skillfully demonstrates his talent in portraits with tales of gloomy danger and familial bonds.

With such a varied body of work, Ivan stays true to his vision refusing to compromise his art, and much like the musicians he admires, his camera weaves notes of tone and pitch to tell stories of moments, feelings and sense of humor.

” Creating and exploring new work, new art. It’s the unknown that fascinates me” -Ivan Otis.
